ACADEMIC & RESEARCH INTEREST

I joined DFI to further develop and implement our sustainable agriculture and food safety education programs for area growers. I moved into this position after working on the DFI’s raspberry research project, vineyard and vegetable production. With a Master degree in environmental policy from the University of Washington, a Master certificate in sustainable agriculture from Washington State University’s global campus, and 15 years of experience in the field, I feel very comfortable with the position. I comes from a family with agricultural roots in the Midwest and became interested in dryland farming as a US Peace Corps agroforestry volunteer in West Africa. I have worked on multiple watershed planning and regional natural resource management projects, have hands-on experience in market farming in the US and Europe, and have enjoyed conducting outreach and extension programs with landowners and operators. My key interest is in helping to build a durable, productive local food system.
